The media gets a lot of attention these days, and rightly so. These various forms of communication -- tv, internet, radio, newspapers -- all have their way of relaying important information. But the biggest challenge for the media today is to maintain integrity so that we can discern the facts from unwanted, unneeded or even untruthful information. God's media or communication venues are much more elaborate, extensive and powerful than the world's media, and He conveys the most dramatic and life-changing message of all time-- His love, His desire and His plan for mankind. His first mode of communication is creation, and He doesn't need modern technology's help.
"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." --Psalm 19:1
"He binds up the water in his thick clouds, yet the clouds are not broken under it. He covers the face of his throne, and spreads his cloud over it . . . Indeed these are the mere edges of his ways, and how small a whisper we hear of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand." (Job 26:8,9,14).
"Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory." --Isaiah 6:3
There may be people on this earth who have not yet heard the gospel of Christ, but there is not one person who is exempt from witnessing the extravagance of the Father's creation which testifies to his power and authority over all. Creation is God's media megaphone. With each new sunrise, we see His beauty, with each sunset, His glory. With every storm, we witness His power unleashed on mountains, valleys, forests and plains. God reveals in His Word the explanation of His integrity and His purpose--something we rarely get from the mainstream media:
"The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." (Romans 1:18-20)
God's intention is clear: there will be no excuses for ignorance of Himself, because God makes Himself known to all through His creation.
The Father's media message is also given to us through His Son, Jesus: "God, who at various times and in different ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by his Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the worlds" (Hebrews 1:1,2). Jesus is the "Word made flesh", but we know that God's message also comes through His written Word: "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof for correction, for instruction in righteousness" (2 Timothy 3:16).
Finally, God speaks clearly to believers by His Spirit: "But I will send you the Advocate--the Spirit of truth. He will come to you from the Father and will testify all about me." (John 15:26) Notice that God's Spirit is truth itself--without error or falsehood.
Truth in today's media is often questionable and sketchy. Truth in God's media is always reliable and trustworthy. "And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life." (1 Jn 5:20) Praise God for His relentless message of truth--every day and in every way!
Father of all creation, reveal your truth to us daily, especially the truth of redemption by the death and resurrection of your Son, Jesus. Give us listening ears and discerning hearts to seek your truth and live by it each day. Amen.
